This aircraft was owned and flown from approx 1988 – 2013 by a very fastidous enthusiast engineer who rebuilt the aircraft from the ground up, over a 7-8 year period between 1992 – 1998, sparing no expense, during which time the aircraft was out of the air.

The aircraft was rebuilt with the objective to bring it up to a standard of quality, condition and performance ‘better than new’.

This aircraft was awarded The Mark French Memorial Trophy for “Amateur or Non-Amateur Built Aircraft – Highest Quality of Restoration – Grumman-American AA1B ZU-BRX” at the EAA National Convention AirWeek 1999, held at Klerksdorp.

Imported by the Grumman-American agents VIP Aircraft of Wonderboom Airport in 1974, the aircraft was originally registered in C of A Categories of Operation A,C,D,E and F as ZS-IXG and was re-registered as NTCA following it’s complete rebuild, and assigned the registration it carries today, ZU-BRX. Under NTCA rules therefore the aircraft operates under an “Authority to Fly” certificate.
